Work continues

Today we took care of the complete wiring harness from the Swift, that will make the install in the mini simpel,(we hope!)

Some might say...

..that the key to working with cars is to use the right tools and stick to the manual. It is also said that you need to use caution not to destroy anything. However, when stripping Kims old Swift you only need a free mind and long metal bars. After some tender bending - the Swift lost it´s steering wheel. (Yes, we know that a special tool would also have removed the wheel...however we decided to use our very own special tool)

What is this guy doing the day before x-mas, actually looking for useful cabels in the swift! Ivar did a great job with collecting every electrical item useful for the further build.

Dashboard, gearbox and fuelpump is about the only valueball stuff left in Kim´s old GTI.

Motor worx

The work with the motor continues, new pistonrings and crankshaft bearings are fitted. I will change some oil sealers and start put pieces together =).

Manuals found

Maybe there actually is a meaning with this, today I went to my fathers farm and found some mini stuff that belonged to a former house owner-Great!
Thanks to "mackan" we also got manuals for the mk2/3 motors, they seem to be almost equal with the mk1 so it was very helpful.
The work with the motor continues but in a slow pace because of christmas, tomorrow morning we will go to the tent for some serious business!

cleaning up

The right day for me and Ivar to put things back together seems to be almost impossible because of christmas, family and work(real work) that has to be done before new years eve.

Since I am really bad at waiting around i´ve done some cleaning on the engine.
The motor was soaked with oil and it took quite a while to get it allright.

Im thinking about changing the gaskets of the waterpump and oilpump tomorrow.

One great thing is that some spareparts for the mini arrived at Janas today, I will pick them up tomorrow (to save the christmas).

Cylinderhead

Lifted the Cylinderhead today, we are lucky =).
No marks on the top of the pistons, valves seems to be intact.
The sump is soaked with old oil and dirt from Kims fields but in an ordenary condition, if we get ambitious we might paint it.
A download failure with autodata slows the projekt down a bit, I am going to swap piston rings and crankshaft bearings today an then start to pick the pieces together again.

Here is the engine the 15th of December.

Sump and top is till on.

Motor work

The work on the engine continues, hopefully the engine will be finished between x-mas and the new year.

Tomorrow I will open it to check out the valves,if we are happy Kim (the freak who sold us the swift) didn´t destroy the engine.

A subframe is ordered from henrik (www.minigarage.se) and will be delivered in January.

Ivar will take care of the interior and we will pay the swift a visit to plunder it for more useful stuff!!!

We got a Mini!

Finaly. After weeks of scanning various sites and mailing/talking with (sometimes very strange*) people all across Sweden we now own a Mini. And the best thing, we found it very close to were we live and the guy who sold it was nice to us.

The manifold

When my sidekick, friend and companion in this project Ivar was ill today i tried to release the manifold on my own so that we could change the gasket.

Two of the bolts snapped, so I had to drill and then use my tap and die wrench set,
to get the threads in order.

Engine moved

Wintertime in Sweden can be very unpredictable so the little engine was moved to a safe place where we can work on it.

Bolted on a motor-rack we drove kims conn gti engine to nacka outside stockholm for further inspection and rescue.

In a couple of days we will start the heeling process...

The engine

At a big tent in Akalla outside Stockholm we decided to lift the engine.

Even if the swift is a small car the space under the hood feels even smaller and the operation was not without problems, but we solved them...

A quick look at the engine! It is barley running but will soon be in the shape of its lifetime!

New gaskets, pistonrings etc are ordered....

After a quick shower the little one will be taken care off!
